The Preiss Company Announces Launch of Mobile Websites across its Student Housing Portfolio

The Preiss Company Announces Launch of Mobile Websites across its Student Housing Portfolio

New service gives campus residents more accessibility to off-campus property news, features, and updates

RALEIGH, NC – March 17, 2011 – The Preiss Company, one of the largest off-campus student housing providers in the nation, has recently launched mobile websites for all of its student housing properties.  Partnering with Resite Online, a division of Dominion Enterprises, the Raleigh real estate company has developed these new websites to allow current and prospective residents greater access to property news and property management.

“In the past year, our property websites had over 340,000 visitors, and this number is expected to increase as we continue to add to our student housing portfolio,” says The Preiss Company Marketing Director, Amy Barger.  ”Our management team is constantly updating our sites with the newest technology—from interactive floor plans to online rent payments.  We need to make sure that this information is readily available and in the hands of the people who need it most—wherever they may be and from whatever device they may be using.  By supplementing our current websites with mobile versions, we can ensure that our current and prospective residents have on-demand access to information that is easier to read, more concise, and more compatible with the mobile devices that they are likely using throughout the course of their day.”

Ann Padgett, Creative Director for Resite Online, says that mobile websites were a natural, technological progression for The Preiss Company.  Given the mobility of today’s college student, mobile websites give this     target market access to information via any mobile device—smart phones, tablets, and even hand-held game devices.  Mobile websites are specifically designed to maximize smaller screen resolutions, are simpler to navigate, and provide real-time, two-way communication via SMS (short message system) messaging.

“When we started working with The Preiss Company, we originally built their websites using a lot of interactive Flash animation,” explains Padgett. “Since Flash is not supported by most mobile devices, the usability of their websites was limited. By adding the mobile versions, we were able to expand their target audience and provide them with a better user experience, in addition to the expanded SMS messaging service.”

Resite Online’s mobile applications allow community staff and marketing teams to communicate specials, events, community emergencies and more. Resite’s mobile websites and SMS messaging services act as a mobilized leasing tool, easily capturing prospect information and enabling leasing teams to respond via text or email. The expanded system feeds data from the community’s traditional website to ensure the mobile information is always up-to-date without redundant effort. Resite’s mobile applications encompass a wide variety of marketing and retention tools including customized mobile websites, send-to-friend, click-to-call, short-code, keyword texting, text-to-residents, text-to-email, directions-to-phone, and comprehensive reporting.

The Preiss Company has been working with Resite Online for over six years.  Resite Online General Manager, Laura Trussell, says that the partnership has been rewarding and mutually beneficial.

“Amy and her marketing team are always striving for improvements to their brand by pushing the use of technology in ways their competitors haven’t thought of,” says Trussell.  ”The Preiss Company’s dedication to marketing, combined with Kirk’s [Kirk Preiss, Principal of The Preiss Company] knowledge of technology and operations, have provided Resite with multiple new ideas for improvements and growth to our own products.  The mobile project was a success, and we love seeing the new mobile leads coming into their communities!”

Barger says that her marketing team has been creative in promoting the new mobile websites.  To date, the team has held trivia nights, posted flyers throughout their associated campuses, has hosted parties, and even sponsored a cake decorating contest.  The mobile websites have been active since the end of January and Barger says that the feedback has been positive.

“In just weeks, we’ve already seen our investment beginning to pay off,” says Barger.  ”We’re getting daily leads from every one of our mobile websites, and the overall response has been fantastic.”

Mobile Leasing: Mobile Websites & SMS Messaging

screen shot Mobile Leasing: Mobile Websites & SMS Messaging

Resite Online's Demo Apartment Community Mobile Website

Resite Online’s Mobile Leasing product includes 3 distinct pieces that can be used for marketing and 2-way communication between prospective residents and your apartment community.

Mobile Community Website
Resite’s mobile websites work seamlessly with your apartment community’s existing website. Mobile users are automatically redirected to the mobile version of your website, while regular desktop users are directed to the full version of your website. Resite’s mobile websites are compatible with all major mobile platforms, and have been designed with the mobile user in mind. Mobile website features include:

  • Photo Gallery
  • Floor Plan listing with images and pricing
  • Community Features
  • Text Directions
  • Click to call
  • Text to Friend
  • Mobile Guestcard (integrated with Resite’s LeasingPathSM product)

SMS Messaging from Desktop Website
Resite provides desktop website users with the ability to have property information and directions texted directly to their cell phone via 2 ways:

  • Send-to-Phone enables users to enter their cell number on an apartment community’s website and be sent the property’s contact information, short description and mobile site url, in addition to a prompt to request further information like a PDF flyer or directions. All of this information is texted to the user’s cell phone regardless of whether or not their cell phone is WAP capable. That user’s cell number is then captured as a lead.
  • Directions-to-Phone enables users to enter their phone number and starting address on an apartment community’s website and be texted step-by-step directions to the property. The user’s cell number is then captured as a lead.

Keyword/Short Code SMS Messaging
Resite’s keyword / short code SMS messaging is similar to Send-to-Phone but can be used on any existing media or advertisement like a banner sign or print ad. The prospective resident sees the ad and is prompted to text a Keyword to a Short Code. They then receive the same text message as the user’s who choose to Send-to-Phone from a desktop website, and their cell number is captured as a lead.

Dominion Enterprises Team Walking Competition

active1 Dominion Enterprises Team Walking CompetitionHere at the Dominion Enterprises headquarters, members of the Resite Online team are participating in the Home Office Team Walking Competition.  The team that walks the most steps between May 17th and June 18th will win a half day of vacation.  We divided into teams of 6 and were given free pedometers to keep track of each step we take.  All of our steps count.  Even our steps at home, on the weekends, and around the office.

The competition ends just in time to kick off the 2010 CHKD Run/Walk for the Kids on June 19th in downtown Norfolk.  All the proceeds from the RunWalk go to CHKD (Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters).  CHKD relies on support from the community to provide the best health care to our region’s children.  Whether a child needs hospitalization, ongoing care for a chronic illness, outpatient surgery or primary care, CHKD Health System provides the staff, facilities and technologies that address the unique demands of childhood.

Why Should We Walk?

Because it is healthy, fun and will get us in shape for the race and even for summer!  If that’s not enough—did you know that adding only 30 minutes a day of light exercise in intermittent periods will boost weight loss and promote positive health changes?  Breaking up your 30 minutes throughout the day still provides the same positive effects as doing the 30 minutes all at once!  Also, exercising regularly helps boost brain power, wards off illnesses, melts away stress and anxiety, pumps your heart, allows you to eat more and makes your muscles more efficient!

According to Wikipedia, “A total of 10,000 steps per day, equivalent to 5 miles (8.0 km), is recommended by some to be the benchmark for an active lifestyle, although this point is debated among experts.”

Wish us luck as we walk our way to half a day and an active lifestyle!

Resite Online’s Mission

logo Resite Onlines MissionResite Online’s focus, and our business mission, is to build, deliver and support web-based applications  (Marketing Websites, ResidentHub portals, LeasingPath guestcards and lease applications) that enable the property management organizations to effectively meet the demands of the new renter. These renter demands must be met in a way that effectively allows the property management company to operate in the electronic, Internet based environment these renters and residents will use to transact and receive services.

Resite Online is very different from property management software providers in that we focus strictly on systems that directly power interaction between property management organizations and renters. We are different from Internet listing services (ILSs) in that we provide systems that continue the interaction throughout the entire lease cycle with variable consumer entry points. We are different from advertising agencies and design firms in that we create web-based transaction environments rather than online brochures. We are different from traditional technology consultants in that we have proven technology platforms focused on the multifamily industry and a talented, artistic creative team. Graphical user interface and workflow management are our specialties. The merger of aesthetic design and powerful, scalable, technology is at the core of our mission.

Our business mission and our product development philosophy are supported through a solid understanding of the challenges property management organizations face in adopting new technologies and business processes. Our product development philosophy is driven by two primary goals.

  1. We must meet the demands for easy use expected by renters and required by property management.
  2. We must deliver robust, flexible applications that will deliver operating efficiencies, performance improvement and sustainability for our partners.

The marriage of these two goals creates products that are easy to use and highly effective.

We also recognize that applications alone do not deliver value. They must be coupled with effective roll out and implementation planning, effective training and quality ongoing support to ensure that the partner’s users are effective in adopting the new business tools. The delivery of these support services ensures that the property management company receives the return on investment they anticipated in committing to changing their business processes and strategies through these applications.

Resite Online, a privately founded software development company solely focused on the multi-family industry, has been in business since 2001, and has helped many diverse organizations leverage Internet based applications in preparation for the changes taking place in the current and future renter expectations and new-media technologies necessary for apartment professionals to maintain their competitive advantage.

Contact Resite Online today at 1.866.3.RESITE or email info@resiteonline.com to become a partner with us.

Recap of AIM from Afar

It’s no surprise I was disappointed that I was unable to attend the Apartment Internet Marketing Conference this year. We have a lot of really exciting things going on here at Resite right now. Supporting my team, my customers, and my business is always my top priority, and in this case trumped attending the conference.

I was happily surprised at the amount of good information I was still able to gain by following all the fabulous multi-family industry tweeps out there. I am very excited to see how much our industry as grown, especially in a social media sense. I cannot thank them enough for sharing the knowledge they gained by attending. There was so much good info that I started to compile a list of the tweets that intrigued me the most, so that I too could share the knowledge with others that were unable to attend. The topics ranged from mobile to social to search engines and more.

Here are some of my favorite tweets from #AIMConf (They are in chronological order, so the bottom of the list was tweeted before the top of the list.):
